Mirrored Inheritance, 2026
Paper Collage on Bristol Paper
11 in x 14 in (27.94 cm x 35.56 cm)
Mirrored Inheritance unfolds across a subtle line that divides the composition like a threshold between times. On the left, two hands embraced in leaves and flowers materialize from what was once a mirror and is now a cosmic portal, these hands holding the hands of a smiling Black child. On the right, from behind the portrait of a Black ancestor, a second hand similarly appears from a mirror turned portal, also encircled by foliage, extending out through the mirror.
This collage moves between past and future, ancestor and child, reflection and emergence. Time collapses into a single moment where hands meet across generations, their roots stretch through space, and lineage branches like a living family tree. The portals are thresholds to a tomorrow where history and futurity touch, and the child is at the center of this relationship as the living point where inheritance is both received and transformed.
