Periwinkles are a resilient perennial flower, persisting throughout many growing seasons. During the enslavement of Black people in the United States, they were brought and buried to the gravesites of enslaved Americans. The flower symbolizes the perseverance of enslaved Black people and every time I see them I am reminded of the legacy that I carry with me and the legacy that I will pass on to those after me...it's a reminder of the endurance that is embedded deep within me.
