16 in x 12 in (40.64 cm x 30.48 cm)
"Didn't even go across the street and set foot on the schoolyard. Turned around and headed downtown to 16th Street. We figured that they can spray fire hoses and sick dogs on us as long as it's like ten or fifteen, but if we all go down there. They can't get all of us..well Skylar, they tried."
"We were gonna make them arrest us. Now, anybody that got a weapon, you gotta get rid of it cause if you got a weapon on you, they gone beat you he had a great big wicker basket, they were passing it around and folks were dropping their knives in it. I had just bought me a brand new case, pearl handle first time around wouldn't give my knife up. then they explained it, if you gotta knife we cant protect you." -Victor Blackledge

My grandparents' stories of courage, resilience, and activism has resonated strongly with me and how I live in this world and I wanted to keep their stories alive through my own work. This is a part of a series of collages that visually symbolize the quotes that strongly resonated most with me. I explore storytelling of my grandparents through the manipulation of magazines, newspapers, maps, archival images and any other paper products I can get my hands on.
